For years, I’d been doing “all the things” to be “healthy.”
So, you can imagine my “WTF!” response when I found out later that I was FAR from healthy. Honestly, it was a major (and much needed) sucker punch to my ego.
If you’re like me, doing “all the things” you know to be healthy, then read on my friend because you may be shocked in what you learn.
I’ve followed a paleo-centric diet for years – eating organic fruits and vegetables, pastured chicken and eggs, 100% grass fed meats, no artificial sweeteners, no seed oils, no ultra processed foods, low to no sugar etc… I drank filtered water, meditated daily, exercised 3-4x/week, took all the supplements known to man, consumed little to no alcohol, got plenty of sleep and was even on bioidentical hormones.
To prove to myself how healthy I was, I decided to run the 5 FDN Foundational Labs on myself – the same labs I recommend to my clients.
When I got my lab results back, I was SHOCKED!
I found out I had leaky gut, high histamine, horrible protein digestion and malabsorption, out of whack cortisol, low estrogen and testosterone levels (despite being on bioidentical hormones), my immune system was tanking.
What was causing all of this?
It all came down to one lab called The GI Map. This lab test looks at what’s going on in your gut – the good and bad bacteria, the pathogens and even your immune system. Come to find out, I had major overgrowth of a nasty little pathogen called H-Pylori. It was the H-Pylori that was wreaking havoc on ALL the other systems in my body.
Why didn’t I have any symptoms?
I actually did have a shit ton of symptoms! But, like most everyone, I thought my symptoms were just kinda “normal.”
- My left eye was always a little red, so I used “red eye” drops daily
- I always felt fatigued in the morning despite sleeping 7-8 hours. Bring on the coffee!
- I experienced nasal congestion every night, so I used Afrin every night before bed
- I had about 7, itchy bumps on my left leg that I thought were bug bites. Turns out they were hives! And no matter what type of hydrocortisone skin cream I slathered on them, they wouldn’t go away.
- My joints and muscles ached constantly but I thought this was due to my F45 workouts. So, I’d take a couple Advil after every workout.
- I would have gas and feel bloated every time I ate, despite eating clean. I would take Gas X for this one.
- And here’s the worst one… my hair was thinning and falling out! So of course, I tried every type of “thickening shampoo/conditioner” and “hair restore vitamins” I could get my hands on.
So here I am thinking I’m pretty healthy, yet I was using no less than 6 different over the counter medicines daily!
These seemingly “normal” symptoms were by body telling me… “Wake the F up! Act now before it’s too late and you develop a full blown, diagnosable disease that you’ll be forced to treat with pharmaceutical for the rest of your life!”
The GI Map is one of the labs I run on all of my clients. There may be unknown bugs or bacteria imbalances in your gut that are wreaking havoc on the rest of your body and you don’t even know it. If things are not right in your GI system, it doesn’t matter what you do to be healthy, it’s not going to work!
