For years, I’d been doing “all the things” to be “healthy.”
So, you can imagine my “WTF!” response when I found out later that I was FAR from healthy. Honestly, it was a major (and much needed) sucker punch to my ego.
If you’re like me, doing “all the things” you know to be healthy, then read on my friend because you may be shocked in what you learn.
Back Story
I’ve followed a paleo-centric diet for years – eating organic fruits and vegetables, pastured chicken and eggs, 100% grass fed meats, no artificial sweeteners, no seed oils, no ultra processed foods, low to no sugar etc… I drank filtered water, meditated daily, exercised 3-4x/week, took all the supplements known to man, consumed little to no alcohol, got plenty of sleep and was even on bioidentical hormones.
When I started the FDN Practitioner Certification program, I decided to run the FDN Foundational Labs on myself – the same labs I recommend to my clients. I wanted to prove to myself that I was indeed doing “all the right things” to be healthy.
When I got my lab results back, I was SHOCKED!
I found out I had leaky gut, high histamine, horrible protein digestion and malabsorption, out of whack cortisol, low estrogen levels (despite being on bioidentical hormones), my immune system was tanking and I also had a major overgrowth of a nasty little pathogen called H-Pylori.
What was causing all of this? It all came down to one lab called The GI Map. This lab tests looks at what’s going on in your gut – the good and bad bacteria, the pathogens and even your immune system. Come to find out, the overgrowth of H-Pylori I had was wreaking havoc on all the other systems in my body.
This is the reason I always run a GI Map on my clients. Because if things are not right in your GI system, it doesn’t matter what you do, it won’t work unless you address this system first.
But why didn’t I have any symptoms?
Well, I actually did, but I just thought my symptoms were “normal” for a high-performing female my age.
Well, my left eye was always a little red (so I used eye drops daily); I was always tired in the morning despite sleeping 8 hours (but that’s what coffee is for am I right?); I was a congested at night (so I just used nose spray before bed); I had a few bumps on my left leg that I thought were just bug bites (turns out they were hives) and my muscles and joints always ached (I thought I was just working out too hard.)
These seemingly “normal” symptoms were by body telling me… Wake the F up! Act now before it’s too late and you develop a full blown, diagnosable disease that you’ll be forced to treat with pharmaceutical for the rest of your life!
