My Health Journey – Part 1 The One Lab Test That Changed Everything!

If you’ve been doing “all the things” to stay healthy and feel good – then keep reading my friend because you’ll be shocked to learn what you might be missing!

Like you, I’ve been doing everything known to man to get healthy and stay that way.

So, you can imagine my “WTF!” response when I found out that I was FAR from healthy. It was a major (and much needed) sucker punch to my ego.  

Back Story

I’ve followed a paleo-centric diet for years – eating organic fruits and vegetables, pastured chicken and eggs, 100% grass fed meats, no artificial sweeteners, no seed oils, no ultra processed foods, low to no sugar etc… I drank filtered water, meditated daily, exercised 3-4x/week, took all the supplements for longevity, consumed little to no alcohol and got plenty of sleep.

When I started the FDN Practitioner program, I ran the FDN Foundational Labs on myself – the very same labs that I recommend to my clients. I wanted to prove to myself that I was indeed doing everything right.

When I got my lab results back, I was SHOCKED to learn that I wasn’t as healthy as I thought!

In fact, the labs indicated I had leaky gut, high histamine, horrible protein digestion and malabsorption, out of whack cortisol, low estrogen levels (despite being on bioidentical hormones), my immune system was tanking, and my gut microbiome was a hot mess.

What was causing all of this “metabolic chaos? 

It all came down to the results of one lab – The GI Map.  This lab test looks at what’s going on in your gut – the good and bad bacteria, the pathogens, and immune system function. Come to find out, I had an overgrowth of a nasty little bug called H-Pylori which was wreaking havoc on all the other systems in my body.  And by “systems”, I mean the ones that FDN’s look at to figure out the root causes of our symptoms. We call it HIDDEN: Hormones, Immune, Digestion, Detox Pathways, Energy Production and Nervous System.

But why didn’t I have any symptoms?

Well, I actually DID have symptoms. But like most of my clients, I thought my symptoms were “normal” and just the way my body functioned. 

What were my symptoms?

  • My left eye was always a little red. So, I used red eye relief drops daily.
  • I was always tired in the morning despite sleeping 7-8 hours. But that’s what coffee is for, am I right?
  • I was always congested at night, but I thought it was because I had a deviated septum. So, I was using Afrin nose spray every night before bed.
  • I had been dealing with a few itchy bumps on my left leg which I thought were just bug bites. Turns out, they were hives!
  • My muscles and certain joints always ached a little bit. But I thought I was just working out too hard.
  • I would sometimes have gas and bloating after eating certain meals. So I would chew a GasX pill.

All of these seemingly “normal” symptoms were my body screaming at me – “Wake the F’up! 

This is the reason I always run a GI Map on my clients. Because there may be things going in your gut that are wreaking havoc on the rest of your body and you don’t even know it.

Let me ask you this…

What signs or symptoms are you dealing with right now that you’re dismissing as “normal.”  Take a second and think about it.  

  • Do you have any skin issues?
  • Are you experiencing allergy type symptoms of any kind?
  • How does your stomach feel after you eat a meal?
  • Are your muscles or joints achy?
  • What’s your energy level like in the morning and throughout the day?
  • How are you sleeping?
  • Is your mind as sharp as it’s ever been?
